MOHS Micrographic Surgery — Skin cancer is the most prevalent of all cancers. It is estimated that 700,000 Americans develop skin cancer every year. Fortunately, Drs. Crowe and Truett offer Mohs micrographic surgery for skin cancer. This state-of-the-art procedure offers the highest rate, the lowest possibility of recurrence and less risk of scarring than with traditional methods.   With this highly specialized procedure, the skin cancer tumor is accurately and precisely removed down to its roots, giving it little or no chance to grow back.  Because Drs. Crowe and Truett were the first physicians in western Kentucky to offer Mohs micrographic surgery, they have the experience you can trust.  The re-certification status that both physicians earn annually is a testament to their skills and knowledge. If you have a suspicious mole, sore, discoloration or lesion, schedule an appointment today to have it evaluated. If diagnosed early enough, skin cancer can be curable. (Currently only offered at the Owensoboro facility.)

FotoFinder Dermoscope® - helps “map’’ moles.  This technology, the only one available in the tri-state area, is the most advanced computer-aided imaging available for enhanced melanoma detection.    This type of diagnosis cannot replace the medical method of diagnosis – and is used as a second opinion.  However, the computer is capable of drawing the specialist’s attention to unusual lesions, which he or she might not have observed originally.  The FotoFinder Dermoscope® complements other diagnostic techniques and may help determine which skin lesions require biopsy or removal. (Available at the Owensboro facility.)

ALA-Photo Dynamic Therapy (PDT)- treats pre-cancerous skin lesions (actinic keratoses).  Basic treatment for AKS has been cryosurgery, surgical removal and biopsy, topical chemotherapy, chemical peels, and laser skin resurfacing.  This revolutionary treatment provides the community with another alternative treatment for actinic keratoses. This safe and effective, out-patient treatment has shown improved therapeutic results, reduced risk of infection, limited injury to normal skin, and decreased potential for scarring.  The same-day treatment enables the dermatology specialist to treat large areas such as the scalp and face causing the patient little if any discomfort.  PDT also reduces blotchy, rough skin and wrinkles.

Gentle laser skin treatments for medical and cosmetic reasons- Owensboro Dermatology Associates and Advanced Aesthetics offer today’s most effective and state-of-the-art laser skin resurfacing techniques to enhance your skin’s health and appearance. This advanced technology can quickly reduce wrinkles and fine lines around the eyes and mouth, soften deep frown lines and repair sun-damaged skin and scars. The newer laser procedures are gentle and allow for more comfort both during and after the procedure. They also allow for faster healing than previous lasers. Here are some of the conditions lasers can effectively treat:

Excimer Laser – treats mild to moderate psoriasis with few side effects reducing symptoms and sometimes creating remission. (Currently available at the Owensboro facility.)

Vbeam Laser - treats red birthmarks such as port-wine stains and hemangiomas, rosacea, facial veins, scars, angiomas, warts and poikiloderma of civatte.  The laser also treats periorbital wrinkles.  This pulse dye laser delivers an intense but gentle burst of yellow light to the skin.  The light is specifically absorbed by the blood vessels in the dermis making the vessels coagulate allowing them to be reabsorbed by the body. (Available at the Owensboro facility.)

Effective treatment of rashes -We offer a variety of effective treatment methods for eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis, which are common rashes that can affect both children and adults. After pinpointing the cause of your rash with advanced testing methods, we will develop a customized treatment program to reduce inflamed skin. This may include topical and/or oral medications. The latest narrow-band UVB treatment is also available to treat psoriasis.
